Sitting around the house with family or friends watching movies is fine. However, sometimes, you want the real experience; you know, the smell of popcorn, lots of people around you, and action on a big screen. Well, get excited, because in Ventura, California, there are some incredible summer movie screenings to look forward to. Check out these upcoming events this month!
“Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery”
Without question, the Austin Power movies are hysterical. If you need a good laugh or an ice-breaker for a first date, this film is perfect. Scheduled for August 12th from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. at North Hollywood Park, this showing is part of the NoHo Summer Nights Festival.
Be prepared for some seriously funny entertainment. Mike Myers and Elizabeth Hurley both give great performances. In this film, Myers, a 1960s secret agent, is brought out of cryofreeze in the 1990s to face off against his greatest enemy. With Meyers still stuck in a 60s mindset, you will be rolling on the floor with laughter.
“Beauty and the Beast”
Some people consider this a “girly” movie, but by the end, you may sneak a peek of your male friends shedding a tear or two. Not only is Beauty and the Beast filled with romance but also comedy and lots of unexpected thrills. As a modern-day “boy gets girl” film, it is beyond fantastic. You can see this movie at the Warner Ranch Park on Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Los Angeles on August 19th with a screening time of 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Depending on your age, you might have grown up on Disney films, but get ready to be blown away by this live-action animated classic. The film stars Emma Watson–yes, the same Emma Watson from the Harry Potter series–as well as Luke Evans, Dan Stevens, Josh Gad, and Kevin Kline. The film itself is worth seeing, but you will also love all of the original music with new songs added.
Cinema al Fresco
Do you remember the good old days of drive-in theaters, a time when you could lay out a blanket or jump in the back of a pickup truck to watch your favorite movies under the stars? You still can by visiting The Village. Every third Monday throughout the summer, you can enjoy a variety of screenings. For instance, Jurassic Park will play on August 21st. The theater advises that you bring a comfortable blanket since it does not provide seating.
What makes this even more exciting is all of the things that come along with watching a film under the stars as a Cinema al Fresco moviegoer. You can pick up your favorite snacks or food from restaurants in Topanga, Village, and Promenade, bringing them back to enjoy while watching the film. You can also munch on SusieCakes, priced at 10 percent off when you buy a movie ticket. Another offer is a free Sriracha or Matcha Pop from Sweetin Poke if you purchase a bowl between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m.
