This year’s Seaside Highland Games are set to be the best games yet. This yearly tradition in Ventura honors a Scottish tradition that has lasted for the past 1,000 years. Bring the whole family, because there’s something for everyone.
Seaside Highland Visitor Activities
As always, there is the British car show featuring classic sports cars courtesy of the Central Coast British Car Club. Stop by the clan table to see which clan your family may be affiliated with. A representative of the Clan Society would be happy to answer any questions about Scottish names, families, life, and culture. The Harpers Glen will also be playing this year, offering performances by harp players of all ages and levels.
When you get hungry, you can enjoy a buffet of traditional Scottish food as well as whiskey tasting. Afterward, take your sweetheart to go Scottish country dancing. Of course, there will be traditional Scottish music played throughout the festival.
There is an entire children’s glen with activities for kids of all ages, including games and athletic competitions, dance and bagpipe lessons, and even a fingerprint ID program to help keep your wee ones safe.
Seaside Highland Games Competitions
Not only is there family fun, there is serious competition, as well. You’ll see the heavy athletics, which includes shotput, hammer throwing, and tossing the caber. Besides the physical, there will also be competitions in bagpiping, drum majoring, Highland dancing, and fiddling for you to enjoy.
