Preparing for your 5 or 10K

Running a couple of miles happily is something that doesn’t just happen overnight. Lucky for you, there are a couple of quick tips to help you prepare for your upcoming race no matter the distance.

  • The first thing you should do is to lay out all gear and clothes the night before that way the morning of you are sharp and not stressed out.
  • The next thing you need to make sure you drink plenty of fluids, not just the day off but the night before as well. The ounce of water can make all the difference on your actual race day.
  • Most runners suggest getting to the race about 30-45 minutes before for proper sign in time and moderate stretching. Stretching is a very neglected task for many people and can lead to a lot of distress on your body.
  • Finally, that saying slow and steady wins the race might not always be true, but if you are beginner runner you may want to pace yourself. Walking a few laps is very important when adjusting your body to become a happy runner. Make sure you stay hydrated during the race and continue breathing properly. Most importantly have fun too, too many times people take the charitable ones too seriously. Don’t be that guy and just have fun with it!
